Virus Name: Fuse Box Dwarf Aliases: V Status: Rare Discovered: July, 1993 Symptoms: .COM files created Origin: Unknown Eff Length: 23,656 Bytes And Over Type Code: SNE - Spawning Non-Resident .EXE Infector Detection Method: ViruScan, NAV, NAVDX, AVTK, NShld, NAV/N, AVTK/N Removal Instructions: Delete infected files General Comments: The Fuse Box Dwarf virus was received in July, 1993. This virus is a non-resident spawning or companion virus which will infect .EXE programs by creating a corresponding .COM program. Not all of the companion .COM files created by the virus, however, will actually contain the viral code. When a program infected with the Fuse Box Dwarf virus is executed, this virus will infect one .EXE file in the current directory by creating a .COM file with the same base file name. These companion files will be 23,656 or more bytes in size if they contain the actual viral code, and have the current system date and time. The following text strings are visible within the viral code, with the last text string being repeated multiple times: ".COM .EXE PATH" "COMSPEC COMSPEC" "Dreeb! Dreeb! I am the fuse box dwarf!" For other than the first two .EXE files in any directory, the companion files created by the virus will be 41 or more bytes in size and do not contain the actual viral code. They simply contain the following text string repeated a random number of times: "Dreeb! Dreeb! I am the fuse box dwarf!"
