Geocaching
I finally got a Garmin Etrex yesterday (25/11/04) so it's time to get into this Geocaching lark.
Right after I got it
I set to work making myself a homemade data cable seeing as proper Garmin ones can sell for up to $80. I put it together in a
couple of hours and it's not the best looking thing I've ever made.
I discovered Geocaching through a link on a page I was looking at about homemade CD changers. I roughly plotted a cache near
me on a map and went out there to see if I could find it. After finding the cache I decided it was time to get myself a GPSr
and take up the hobby properly.
The program G7ToWin comes in pretty handy, seeing as it can download a BMP of the
current screen on the Etrex.
6m accuracy in my bedroom isn't too bad. Unfortunately it loses track in the lounge room so I still haven't been able to find
the bathroom.
I'm currently trying to sort out a free map solution. I'm not that keen to fork out for Garmin Mapsend.
