As administrator of the Lojban List (lojban@cuvmb.bitnet), I am writing to you
and to your feed administrator to protest this spamming attack. In case you
haven't heard by now, posting inappropriate messages to mailing lists is
considered VERY offensive, and an intrusion on people who wish to use the
mailing list for its intended purpose. In addition, it imposes additional
expense on those who pay for their mail traffic, and an expense on backbone
services maintained by fragile agreements.
The offense is compounded by your irresponsible use of the BITnet, which by
agreement among its participants is limited to academic and research purposes
only, a requirement which our list satisfies, but your posting emphatically
does not. Messages posted to Lojban List are distributed partially using
BITnet services, and your message constitutes a blatant violation of the
BITnet Acceptable Use Policy. Due to your ill-considered action, the status
of the very mailing list you used to disseminate your commercial message
may be at risk.
There are many acceptable media for electronic commerce. You may set up an
FTP or WWW site, or post to a Usenet newsgroup in the biz.* hierarchy or
in certain mainstream newsgroups set aside for the purpose. Please take
the minimum effort to understand the ethos of the Net before repeating your
efforts.
Thank you for your future cooperation.
