Late Night = Blog Tinkering
Posted on October 8, 2003 @ 8:37 am
In case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve made the switch over from Greymatter to Movable Type–mostly because I couldn’t sleep last night and playing around with MT seemed like a good idea at 3:00AM. Anyway, it’s up-and-running, and I think I like it. Let me know if you encounter any bugs, broken links, and so forth.

I’ve been considering using movable type somewhere, eventually, but I think I’ll eventually have to break down and register a vanity domain if/when I do that. they idea of having it at a ~ address just kinda makes me shiver for some dumb reason.
Does MT have a method for porting comments from Greymatter?
From a reader’s point of view, I don’t like it at all. I liked the other design MUCH better. It was a lot easier on the eyes (this one has too much white and I don’t like the font). Also, I don’t like comments in pop-up windows. That’s just my 2¢.
I am curious why you switched after recently heralding the new version of Greymatter.
Also, like Andy, I prefered your previous site. It really was easier to read.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I’ve tinkered quite a bit with the blog template today, and I think I’ve arrived at something I like much better. So, is it a bit less ugly than it was earlier today?
Why did I dump Greymatter just a few days after singing its praises? Well, as I said in the post above, I was up late, bored, and ended up playing around with Movable Type well into the wee hours of the morn. As much as I appreciated the simplicity and functionality of Greymatter, the software ultimately lacked a few features that most “modern” blogging tools boast these days–especially in terms of syndication. So, I decided to give Movable Type a try. On the one hand, it has quite a few more features than Greymatter. On the other hand, it’s a bit more difficult to manage–which is good in a way, since I’m using this blog in part as a way to learn more about things like RSS, XML, CSS, and other three-letter acronyms.
Oh, and to answer teedz’s question, MT does have a handy import function for both GM posts and comments.
