Good day to you all and a Happy New Year !

(The first chunk of text here is NOT about my question, you could skip most of it and go directly to the last part for that...Wink )

New as I am here, I'd just like to express the joy of finally having Space Quest V in my little PC after centuries of tears and hair-pulling not able to play the fifth and sixth episodes of this wonderfully and not-yet-even-close-to-being-equalled-by-any-other-adventure-game-in-any-blackhole-whatsoever saga. In the 80's and 90's my computer world was that of my crafty and ingenious Amiga 500, followed by the 1200 and also a flirt with the Atari ST. These were amazing machines in many aspects, BUT as we know, sadly, Space Quest was obliterated and totally abandoned Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad on these 3 wonders after the fourth and graphically awesome Time Ripper adventure. Only in 2004 I upgraded to my first PC and hence a ferocious and unforgiving hunt for Quest games was initiated.

Ok bla bla etc I might continue that part some other day or decade but now to the point we set sail : This being an abandonware (is it really though ? Have I found something illegal ? for that I wish NOT, I'd be glad to pay for playing, both SQ5 and SQ6 !!!) I found on the web, installation went smooth, BUT it's all "ancient" DOS style, set up and all, so options for graphics and sound are stone-age lol (makes sense of course) and I cannot get any sound. Graphics look great, game seems to run perfectly (maybe I'll have problems later due to the TOO fast processor ?) but it's completely mute. So my question is simple : Is there ANY way of getting, if even basic beeps, sound from my speakers ? Or is it pointless to even try it...

Thanks for any help and again A WICKED WILCO WONDERYEAR TO YOU ALL !!!

Daniel

Ok I found as I now restart my web search some answers such as NO the SPace Quest games are NOT legally free, and you can actually BUY the whole saga, Space Quest Collection. Now of course to my grief its ONLY available for buying online in US and NOT Europe. SICKENING !!!!! I must have this collection !!! HELP !!! Maybe buying it on Amazon or other online store might work.

IF I do this, it would be compatible with my european PC right ? (Stupid question but after all once a Wilco always a Wilco...)

And would I get sound then if I bought this ?

The original Adlib and Soundblaster noise doesn't work on modern computers without an emulator. If you buy the new collection, it should automatically be able to run sound. If you find copies elsewhere, you'll need to find a program called DOSBox to run the sound.
