For those of you who don't visit The Janitorial Times at a regular basis (including me, I found out about this from Vizz ), there's been a thread at the AGDI forums for quite a while now, where various people remake the backgrounds from SQ2. The beginning ones don't look too promising, but there's some pretty awesome stuff later on:

Most things do. I like "cool", for instance. |

Err... (tries to make sense of the ever-enigmatic Junior)
At one point, "AGDI" (aka "The Artists Formerly Known as Tierra") had plans to make a Space Quest 2 remake (after they finished QFGII, I believe), under the guise of a "mystery project". However, for reasons I don't entirely recall, they gave up that idea...they called off the remake, and released everything they'd done so far (a very small prototype demo).
IIRC, one of the reasons they cited was that another person (Kippesoep) was working on remaking SQ2 as well, and entirely on his own. His early screens were *very* impressive...I think they decided to quit partly so that Kipper (and others like him) would be able to put forth their own remakes, instead of competing with the AGDs.
Sadly, however, Kippesoep's remake apparently died too...he just kind of disappeared. I never heard of him making any real progress beyond those early screens...
It's a shame, really. If there's any one SQ game that *needs* an overhaul (especially writing-wise), it's Space Quest 2. _________________

In addition, I believe something happened to the writer for their SQ2 (left or something). _________________ Beetle B.

Simply amazing work, are they ever going to program it all up into a game? _________________ Visit the Final Fantasy 10 Compendium

The same question was asked in almost every third post in that thread and the answer was always something along the lines of "If you had read anything in the thread, you'd know it won't be made into a game" _________________ Father Jack Avatar Gallery re-opened! |

Hey,
I'm the one who started the Thread at AGDI's forums - just to let you know, those backgrounds are not made by AGDI, but by a variety of denizens of the board. I myself work on several other remakes for Infamous Adventures (KQIII and an game called Quest For Infamy) - I made a couple SQ2 VGA pics for fun, and I figured I'd start a thread to see if I could get other artists interested if there was a common goal. So far, many artists have made some wonderful screens. Hopefully someday it will be put together in a game. Right now, AGDI has no connection to the screens being made. If a remake is done, it will be an independant group. SusanB has expressed an interest in doing it, but I've not gotten any updates from her.
Anyway, I'm interested in making VGA version of many different Sierra games, though Space Quest IS one of my favorites.
