Having trouble with your SQ games? Try these helpful tips!

General:

Q: I'm having problems running SQ in Windows XP!
A: Either try DosBOX or VDMSound. Both should fix your problem.

SQ1/SQ2/SQ3:
Q: Help! I don't know what to type!
A: In SQ2, you can simply type "cheat" and press Enter...all your problems will be solved. Otherwise, you should probably use "look around" as much as possible.

SQ4:
Q: I'm having trouble with the Skate-O-Rama in the shopping mall. The guards keep killing me!
A: Try the timer fixes before you post a help request. There are also saved games which will help you past this problem.

SQ6:
Q: I received an Error 47 in Sickbay!
A: Try the timer fixes before you post a help request. There are also saved games which will help you past this problem.

Q: My screen disappears when I climb down to the tapeworm!
A: Either simply turn off scrolling before climbing down, or try the timer fixes before you post a help request.

Q: When I try talking to the Endodroid Runner, Roger just says "Hey", and then the dude walks away. Does anyone have a patch to fix this or any idea what I can do to fix this problem?
A: Try the timer fixes before you post a help request.

Q: I need help figuring out how to do something in a game!
A: That's not a question.

Q: How do I do something in SQ[insert game number here]?
A: Check out the walkthroughs from the Virtual Broomcloset or the hint books from SQ.NET

If your technical problem isn't solved in the above posts, please give us the following information in your help request:

  1. Your Operating System (OS). Example: Windows, Linux, MacOS, etc. Also post which version of the OS you're running. Example: Windows XP Home Edition.
  2. The speed of your processor (e.g., 1 GHz).
  3. If you have sound problems:

    1. What is your sound card? Is it a Sound Blaster, and if so, which type? Is it a Roland device? Etc.
    2. What is your sound setup? With that I mean what is your settings in install.exe file of the Space Quest game? Or, if you're running the SQ4/6 WIN version, are you using extended or base level MIDI (It prompts you in the setup stage)?

  4. If you have graphics problems, what is your graphics card and what do you have set as your graphics settings in install.exe file of the Space Quest game? For SQ6, are you using VESA?
  5. Do you use an utility or some other program in conjunction with the game (Such as DOSBox, VDM Sound, Abandonloader, Turbo, CPU killer, etc.)?
  6. Let us know which game version you're playing. You can see your game version with SQ1 or 2 in the game's title screen. For SQ3, look for the ABOUT option of the menu. For SQ4 to 6, there's a file called VERSION in the game's directory. Open it with a text editor and there you go.
  7. Sometimes it's helpful to post your settings from the resource.cfg file found in the directory of your Space Quest game. It gives us an insight to how you are running the game in question.

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure that it was a glich before adding something to the game.
Is there any other way to solve this besides getting something added to the game.

By Gabriel, I assume you're talking about Blaine at the beginning.

No, that's a regular problem. Using one of the fixes is the only way.
