Step Brothers

If you’ve ever secretly yearned to see John C. Reilly wear a Chewbacca mask or watch Will Ferrell teabag a drum kit, this is the movie for you!

I still fear for Land of the Lost because of Ferrell.

So much hate…so few reasons…are you the new Pitchfork? ;)

@Sleestak: Yeah, I read an article about Land of the Lost in (I believe) Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago, and it sounded like they were going for an intentionally cheesy vibe with the film to “capitalize” on Ferrell’s involvement. That being said, the article also suggested that Sid and Marty Krofft are closely involved with the production, so maybe they’ll keep it on the right track. And, hey, it could be worse. They could have gone the obvious route and just trotted out Brendan Fraser as Rick Marshall and told him to rehash his Mummy/Journey to the Center of the Earth character one more time.

@Leah: Nope, that’s just a stock photo I dug up a couple of years back. I believe there’s a photo of my less-heroic secret identity somewhere on my never-updated Flickr account.

@Michael: Pitchfork? Ouch — that hurts! I actually set out to write a longer review for Step Brothers, but a “serious” discussion of its strengths and weaknesses was proving harder to assemble than I expected. Besides, I wouldn’t say that I hated Step Brothers. I’ll admit, I couldn’t help but laugh every time John C. Reilly showed up in the Chewbacca mask. It was just one those comedies that manages to elicit its fair share of laughs without being all that good (i.e. not terribly clever, lacking a unique comedic voice, featuring strictly by-the-book performances, etc.). Still, that’s way better than a bad comedy without laughs — hence, the C-.
