I’m so geeky that…

Posted on February 9, 2007 @ 8:42 am

…I staked out my local Wal-Mart on August 24, 1995, for the midnight release of Windows 95. What can I say? I was really excited about an integrated TCP/IP protocol at the time.

Feel free to play along in the comments. “I’m so geeky that…”

I’m so geeky that my dogs are named Jedi and Sith. The cat? Rogue.

Keeping with the pet theme, I’m so geeky that I named my dog Maxtor (after the hard drive manufacturer). My mom didn’t like how geeky the name was and said, “Let’s just call him Max, but let’s add an extra ‘x’ at the end.” Little did she know that “The Maxx” was a semi-popular comic book character at the time, so I agreed to the name change. I still won!

I am so geeky I have the Heroclix Galactus statue. And the Spectre one. And the Dark Phoenix one.

…I’ve got Wikipedia on a proverbial speed dial.

As in, set up as a quick search thing in Opera. So when anyone mentions or asks about something I haven’t heard of or want to know more about, I’ve usually got the wikipedia page open in about 5 seconds and I’m probably already quoting a paragraph. Some get slightly creeped out.

…. I used to play Everquest on a 56k because no amount of pleading would make my mom put in DSL. I also downloaded 2000 songs on that same connection from Napster when it first came out. How’s that for geeky dedication?

I am so geeky that I remember building a 300 baud modem with a breadboard, and transmitted “hello world” across the classroom to another geeky person and LOVED IT.

I already have tickets to Mugglefest in July, and plans to spend the night at Borders when the last Harry Potter comes out. Ok, not techno-geeky, but still geeky, right?

…I can quote entire episodes of Buffy and/or Angel. I have all of the seasons on DVD and I frequently refer to quotes or events from one show or the other to explain/relate to actual life.

I’m so geeky that I figured out ways to run Windows 98 SE for about 5 or 6 years, even after XP had been the standard OS since forever. I only switched to XP when my 98 PC crashed last year and I decided to buy a whole new desktop. I’ve also played over 100 hours of Wolfenstein.

Off-topic, August 24th is my birthday.

I’m so geeky that I once made jokes in binary - and then laughed about it… or wait, is that nerdy instead of geeky?

I’m so geeky that I once applied a Hegelian dialectical critique to Plato’s Phaedo.

I’m so geeky that I re-designed an entire website in Notepad for FUN on a recent day off….

… I’m so geeky that I keep making Final Fantasy online references in real life, such as a conversation that took place with my fiance, involving a new hair accessory, wherein, I (geekily) quipped: “Do you like it? It’s INT +5?”

… I’m so geeky that I could only have agreed to marry a man who not only laughed at above, but understood what I was talking about and could probably have made a similar quip.

… I’m so geeky.. actually, I’m going to stop now before this becomes too humiliating.

Fun, though. In a geeky way. Look what you did! Bastardo.

My first wife left me for one of the DM’s on a MUD game back in the late nineties. (It would be a lot funnier if it weren’t true.)

For my bachelor party before marrying my current wife, my friends got tickets to the midnight premier of Phantom Menace.

My wife (current) and I spent several years as staff members on an Indy UO shard.

C’mon now. Get yer geek on!
