Lost-vivor: “The Glass Ballerina”
Posted on October 12, 2006 @ 10:07 am

Welcome to Week Two of Lost-vivor! Put simply, Lost-vivor is my attempt to add a little Survivor-style competition to Lost by awarding and deducting points from characters based on their actions during each week’s episode. I’ll tally up the Lost-vivor scores as the season progresses, and at the end, we’ll declare a Lost Season Three champion! See this post for more details.
After the jump, I’ll share my thoughts on “The Glass Ballerina” and assign points for the week. Please note that the section ahead contains spoilers for last night’s episode of Lost. Proceed at your own risk.
Overall, I thought “The Glass Ballerina” was an improvement over the season premiere. There weren’t any revelations nearly as shocking as the existence of Otherville last week, but we did confirm that the Others have active contact with the outside world. Who knew they were part of the Red Sox Nation all along? I would have pegged ‘em as Yankees fans.
Meanwhile, Sun and Jin’s flashbacks seemed far more compelling than Jack’s last week. Having a few Lost-vivors on screen other than Jack, Sawyer, and Kate never hurts. I can’t wait until next week when we finally catch up with what’s going on back at camp.
Oh, and it’s good to see that Trixie the Whore from Deadwood got a gig as one of the Others. Too bad she had to get shot and presumably killed in her first appearance.
Enough smarm already! Let’s assign some points!

Sawyer continues to extend on his lead in Week Two. I know it’s early in the season, but I’m ready to declare Sawyer a definite Lost-vivor favorite, as it seems the Lost writing staff is even more in love with him this season than in the past two. Sun and Jin both had big gains this week, while Desmond took a pretty major hit for having his boat stolen. When you think about it, though, that’s really Sayid’s fault.
Speaking of which, is anyone else getting the vibe that Sayid’s days on the island are numbered? I’m placing my bet now that he’s the next major character to get killed off.
Anyway, after two weeks of Lost-vivor, here are the standings:
- Sawyer (122) (+11)
- Jin (110) (+10)
- Sun (107) (+7)
- Charlie (100)
- Claire (100)
- Eko (100)
- Hurley (100)
- Locke (100)
- Vincent (100)
- Kate (96) (+1)
- Sayid (94) (-6)
- Jack (81) (+2)
- Desmond (80) (-20)
See you next week!

Awesome, you knew Trixi! It took me about 10 minutes to place her!
Im getting a feeling about Sayid! Something’s rotten on the island. He is too smart to get outsmarted by the others the way they did. I think he is an other.
I have to give my wife credit for placing Trixie first. I was scratching my head trying to figure out where I recognized her from when she pointed out it was Trixie.
And I’m starting to wonder about Sayid, too. Things aren’t shaping up well for him either way.
Personally, I’d like to remove points from Kate every time she gets all squinty-eyed. It bugs the HECK out of me and I just don’t know why.
I think that, while Sun may deserve points for having gotten caught with Jae, she certainly deserves points for having had the affair with Jae in the first place…big points! And I think Sawyer knew from the getgo that his escape attempt would fail, and sacrificed himself to get the info they needed. In which case maybe he should have earned points overall from the escape, as opposed to losing 2.
Scottage: I hadn’t thought about assigning points for Sun’s affair. Out of curiosity, do you think that should be a plus or a minus?
On the Sawyer escape attempt, I tried to account for the fact that he knew it would ultimately fail. That’s why he gained 10 for the escape, lost 12 for getting tasered, but gained 4 back for using the attempt to gauge their combat capabilities (net gain: +2).
I’m starting to get the feeling that I have too much free time on my hands.
