Guilty pleasures, now available on 8-track

What’s the guiltiest pleasure lurking inside your music collection?

A few years ago, I sorted through my CD collection and thankfully weeded out most of the worst offenders. We’re talking stuff like the Spin Doctors, Ace of Base, the Spice Girls, and a disc of professional wrestling entrance music (don’t ask). I still have a few guilty pleasures left behind, though. The worst, though? That’s a tough question.
ESPN’s Jock Rock 2000 is a definite frontrunner. It’s a collection of almost decent songs (”The Rockafeller Skank,” “It’s All About The Benjamins,” “Walk This Way”) with lame sports-related comedy bits smooshed in between the music. Or there’s Garth Brooks’ The Hits. I’m not a country music fan, but I think I’ll stand by Garth and his husky-sized ego on this one; he wrote some pretty awesome songs back in the ’90s. Plus, I’m pretty sure that he invented emo. Don’t believe me? Check out a photo of Garth’s alter ego Chris Gaines some time and tell me he isn’t emo.
Let’s see here…the Monkees, Neil Diamond, the soundtrack from Chicago — all worthy contenders.
Probably guiltiest pleasure tucked away in my music collection, though, is the soundtrack to Disney’s Aladdin. Trust me — you haven’t seen funny until you’ve seen a 29-year-old man zipping down the highway while singing along to “Friend Like Me” at the top of his lungs. Not that I do that. Ever. No matter what you might have heard.
So, what guilty pleasures still reside in your music collection?

I have the Aladdin cd too! But probably my guiltiest pleasure is my Rob Base cassette!
I’ve found the “Casper: A Spirited Beginning” soundtrack sitting in my brother’s garbage can a long time ago. I use a song from it in every Ducktales cartoon I make.
ABBA!!! just gotta have it once in a while.
I confess to having an overly large collection goofy songs. Lots of them.
I have a bunch of crappy Radio Disney Pop CDs that my nieces used to make me play in the car on road trips.
They were also fond of A-Teens, Aron Carter, and Britney Spears. So, I have a few of those on the shelf.
As for guilty pleasures. The most current one has to be Lazyboy TV with the Underwear Goes Inside The Pants song, Inhale Positivity, and Are You Qualified? (For Life). It is a CD/DVD combo. I love the videos, too.
Probably my biggest guilty pleasure — because I own practically everything they’ve ever recorded — is the Pet Shop Boys. People make fun of me for still listening to them. An online buddy recently called them “Euro-fags” and that really set me off.
Oh, the Annette Funicello boxed set is a guilty pleasure, too.
It has great songs like Pineapple Princess, Tall Paul, Jamaica Ska, and Monkey’s Uncle.
Garth Brooks is awesome, no matter what anybody says.
Guilty pleasures.. uhm. Ashlee Simpson. Backstreet Boys.. Ryan Cabrera.. soundtracks from MANY Disney Cartoons.
I’m gonna stop there.
Donny Osmond - Soldier of Love to start. The guiltiest pleasure of all is all the 80s music I’ve hung onto. I don’t even think the artist’s themselves want to ever hear that stuff but it’s the sort of stuff I listen to daily. I’ve long said I have the most atrocious taste in music and no one that has seen my iPod playlists will argue that statement.
every time I read your blog I become more convinced you are my cyborg clone. My more talented, intelligent and male cyborg, of course.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVe the Aladdin soundtrack. When I was in highschool, I’d put it on and dance around my room lipsynching and doing little dances I made up to each song. I’d be embarrassed to admit this, but no one knows my true identity, so I’m safe. And my alter-ego, Yellow Mustard Girl has no shame!
I think my guilty pleasure was the Robbie Williams CD…”The Ego Has Landed” I think it was called…it had that song, “Millenium” that I was obsessed with. I’m sorry, it was an awesome song. But then my puppy chewed the CD up and I felt that was a sign to stop listening to bad-boy Brit pop singers. Sigh.
YMG, I love Robbie Williams. I’m not guilty about it either. I listen to one of his recent singles, Tripping, over and over again. It is even better than Millenium.
I also have the Aladdin soundtrack and I’m not guilty over that because Brad Kane has an infectious voice and it is a fantastic album.
Right Said Fred “Up”
Joshua Kadison “Painted Desert Serenade”
Tim Mcgraw’s Greatest Hits
I have a Disney CD that I kinda hide in the back of the closet. It has Usher and A-Teens on it singing updates versions of old Disney songs.
Hmm…
*Some of the more recent Britney stuff is pretty catchy
*Sugar Ray - “Fly”
*A couple of Ace of Base albums
*A couple of Pink albums… she’s funny!
I’ve got the Monkees too, and I am NOT ashamed!
Guilty pleasures? “The Return of Bruno”, believe it or not. I don’t care what any one says about Bruce Willis, his first album rocked simply because I could hear how much fun he was having. The other one? Well, I don’t mind admitting the Mother’s Finest album with “Baby Love” and “Thank You for the Love” is still a favorite, but the ones I DO hate to admit are Madonna’s “Hanky Panky” from Dick Tracy, and Dread Zeppelin’s Heartbreak Hotel. For those of you not familiar it’s Led Zeppelin done in a Reggae style by an Elvis impersonator (best listened to with a nice buzz!
