Save me, Jebus!

Back from Key West. Sustained what appeared to be a minor sunburn on my back while snorkeling in the Dry Tortugas. At nine o’clock tonight, The Itching began. It hasn’t stopped. It’s never going to stop. Lotions, gels, creams, and salves have no effect. My soul is itching right now, and I’m on the verge of finding out if a giant butcher knife will help me scratch it.
More about the trip later (if I survive the night).

Try Benedryl or some other kind of anti-histimine. You might be having an allergic reaction to the sunburn. When I get sunburns I have an allergic reaction and it itches like crazy. Warm temperatures helps–like a hot water bottle, but the most helpful thing I have found is Benedryl.
Good luck!
Thanks for the tip! I was using an aloe-based gel before that I think was drying me out too much and leaving me itchy. I switched over to Benadryl gel not long after making the post and almost immediately found relief.
If they’re so dry then how did you snorkel there? Huh? Huh?? I’m calling shenanigans!
When it’s dry, you just have to kick your flippers that much harder.
I’m glad you found relief. The last time I let myself get badly sunburned I had to take Tylenol 3 with codine just to get to sleep and my back itched terribly for nearly a week.
