Doing my part to support an underappreciated artist

Apropos of Something’s 2004 Album of the Year, Nellie McKay’s Get Away From Me, is being re-released today in a special “dual disc” edition featuring the original album with added DVD content. Reviewers have described Nellie as “Doris Day meets Eminem,” but I prefer to think of her as a slightly less insane Fiona Apple or an angry Norah Jones with a wicked sense of humor.
X-meets-Y comparisons aside, Get Away From Me is a terrific album that combines jazzy piano riffs with remarkably witty lyrics — occasionally throwing Latin grooves, disco pop, and rap into the mix for good measure. I can’t think of many albums that have spent nearly as much time in my CD player through the years as Get Away From Me. So, give it a try if you’re looking for truly unique.

Totally love that cd! I didn’t buy it yet, but I’ve heard it over and over at work! (and now they’re playing Ray LaMontagne to death at work..I hope I don’t get sick of it!)
Hmmm, I like Napoleon Dynamite and popcorn jellies. I wonder if I’ll dig the music?
YAY! I love Nellie McKay. I didn’t know about the re-release. She definitely deserves more attention. However, she’s difficult to categorize.
Dammit, someone reseed… err… DOH !!
