Random Ten Guessing Game

Posted on March 11, 2005 @ 6:02 pm

What say we have a little Friday fun? Below, I’ve posted the opening lines from the first ten songs that played when I launched my media player on shuffle. Let’s see how many artists and song titles you can identify in the comments. I’ll strike each line out once it’s been correctly guessed…

1. “She shone up bright like a knife, wearing tennis shorts made of stripes.”

2. “Gothic flavor, how I miss you. If I only once could kiss you.”

3. “Tonight we ride, right or wrong. Tonight we sail on the radio song.”

4. “John & Mitchie were gettin’ kinda itchy just to leave the folk music behind.”

5. “’Cause nobody can do it like Mixmaster can.”

6. “Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?”

7. “Oh, make me over. I’m all I wanna be.”

8. “I’m mixing business with leather, Christmas with Heather.”

9. “I recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone.”

10. “Cut my tongue out, I’ve been caught out like a giant juggernaut.”

No Googling the answers, tricksy hobbits.

Song number 9 is You Learn by Alanis Morissette. I might be too young to know the others… Or my musical horizon just isn’t as wide as I thought it was.

That’s right! Jagged Little Pill is still one of my guilty pleasures. ;)

  3. Chris March 11, 2005 6:32 pm

Number 6 is Dylan’s “A Hard Rain is Gonna Fall”

    Shades of the past. . . . .

  6. JM March 11, 2005 6:46 pm

    #8 is Beck’s “Mixed Bizness”

  7. Jess March 11, 2005 6:53 pm

    Mamacita: Close, but no cigar.

    JM: Nailed it!

Man, the “don’t Google” rule makes this HARD! I’ll feel like a total loser when the rest of the answers are posted, I’m sure.

oh, (after thinking I won’t know any) #7 is by Hole, I think the track is called “Celebrity Skin”. I’d Google it to verify but….

  10. Patrick March 11, 2005 9:22 pm

oh, and I so know *who* does #5, but I don’t know the song title. I can just hear it in my head. I’ll keep this to myself until someone can get the whole thing.

  11. Jess March 11, 2005 9:43 pm

    “Celebrity Skin” it is!

  12. david March 11, 2005 10:16 pm

#4 is “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas! Heard it this a.m. in fact.

  13. Mamacita March 11, 2005 10:46 pm

AAAAGH. Crecque Alley, Mamas and Papas, #4

    I can’t believe I did that. (bangs head on keyboard repeatedly. . . .)

  14. Mamacita March 11, 2005 10:48 pm

I just figured out another one. Are we allowed to post more than once?

  15. Jess March 12, 2005 7:09 am

Mamacita got number four! It’s “Creeque Alley” by the Mamas and Papas. And, yep, you’re allowed to guess as many as you’d like. :)

  16. Kara March 12, 2005 8:46 am

Tom Petty is number three! “You wreck me” or something. Alanis is obvious. And number ten will come to me… Garbage! That “when I grow up” song!

  17. Jess March 12, 2005 8:53 am

That’s two more! I was counting on you to guess the Garbage lyric, Kara. ;)

  18. Mamacita March 12, 2005 10:49 am

    #2- WEEZER ! Burndt Jam!

  19. Jess March 12, 2005 10:51 am

You got it! One of my favorite Weezer songs, by the way…

  20. Mamacita March 12, 2005 10:51 am

Holy random button, Batman, I know #1, too!

Turn A Square, by the Shins!

I really need to sit down here and pay attention to my playlists; I’ve got over seven thousand mp3’s on my hard drive and I’ve forgotten what I’ve got.

  21. Richard March 12, 2005 11:01 am

#5 sounds like it’s from Mixmaster Jeff from Spunky Brow’s album Dancing around like a maniac because of too much sugar.

  22. Jess March 12, 2005 11:15 am

    Mamacita got the Shins.

Believe it or not, you’re close, Richard…

  23. Patrick March 12, 2005 11:18 am

The only one left is the one that I know the *who* but not the *what*……….. should I say anything to help the others?

  24. Jess March 12, 2005 11:31 am

Feel free to chime in with the artist…hopefully, someone will come up with the song from there.

  25. Patrick March 12, 2005 7:22 pm

    Beeeeeastie Boys!

  26. teedz March 12, 2005 11:59 pm

Beastie Boys, “Three MCs and One DJ”

  27. Jess March 13, 2005 7:04 am

    And teedz finished it off!

  28. Tracy March 14, 2005 10:52 am

I love this post idea and I am STEALING IT >:D

Oh fine, I’ll credit you. :)

I didn’t feel right about posting any answers, since I’m pretty familiar with most of your music collection (unfortunately…jk).
