Get out while you can, Odie!

Anyone want to take a stab at explaining the “joke” in yesterday’s Garfield comic?

I’m with Michele on this one; the only reasonable explanation is that Jon is making a burnt goat offering to Satan. A bit sinister for the funny pages, don’t you think?
Oh, wait — I read back into the Garfield archives a few more days, and now the comic makes perfect sense. Here’s a strip from a couple of days ago:

Okay…the second comic is a fake. That still doesn’t explain the first one, though.

You slay me! Thanks for the laugh.
Maybe the comic is just poking fun at how the heater / furnace sometimes smells nasty? But I’ve never associate such smells with burning goats. I don’t even know what they smell like!!
Garfield has always had the type of comedy which leaves you going: “Oh, I’m… Oh…”
“What is it, Sebastian?”
Wow, Davis is just out there, huh? Maybe he’s going for a Zippy-the-Pinhead sort of esoteric genius thing? And then again, maybe Garfield just sucks.
I am in complete agreement with you. I have never understood what anyone, not even my teenage daughter, (okay, she is a long way from teenage now)
saw in Garfield even when he was new on the scene.
Davis should retire and hand over the reins to you.
Seriously.
pet fur can get in the filters and make the first few times the furnace heats up smell like a hair-dryer accident. i think that was the deal…
