Pants! Glorious pants!

While shopping for a pair of khakis last night, it occurred to me that only in the world of men’s fashion would “stain-resistant” be considered a primary selling-point. Can you imagine Ann Taylor rolling out an ad campaign devoted to her new line of stain-resistant, wrinkle-free capris next spring? Apparently, men don’t want to know the cut of their pants, whether they’re pleated or flat-front, or how they’ll fit. All they care about is whether they can drop marinara sauce in their lap at lunch, splash some water on it in the restroom, and return to work with only a big wet spot on their pants to hint at their near-disaster.

I have to say, as a guy, you’re not even supposed to know what capris are.
I don’t know why that is, although I would guess that there are more men that travel for business than women. Stain resistant clothing sounds to be awesome for traveling…especially if you want to wear something more than once before washing it. (You can only pack so much into a suitcase.) I think you may be too young to remember TOUGHSKINS.(?) My mom used to buy them at Sears for my younger brother. They had these huge solid-feeling knees sewn into the fabric of the jeans. Designed for boys who normally wore out the knees of their jeans before growing out of them. You never saw these jeans for girls, although girls spent plenty of time crawling around the floor playing with Barbies. And while we’re on the subject, why are men’s clothes so much cheaper than women’s?!
MJ: In my experience, men’s clothes are cheaper at the outset, but they never seem to go on the same kinds of deep-discount clearance sales that women’s clothes do in the department stores. Why can’t I take an additional 50% off the lowest ticketed price, too?
As a woman, I’m going to side with Jess on the clothes-cost issue. I’ve never seen a men’s store where everything is under $20, but I’ve run into a million of them for women at the mall. My brother and bf complain about it constantly!
