Gaze into my crystal ball

From CNN.com:

Two Michael Moore books due this fall

NEW YORK (AP) — Get ready for more Michael Moore this fall.

The activist, best-selling author and Academy Award-winning filmmaker has two new books coming out, publisher Simon & Schuster announced Wednesday.

“Our goal is to have both books out before Election Day,” said Simon & Schuster spokeswoman Victoria Meyer.

“The Official ‘Fahrenheit 9-11′ Reader” is a companion book to the scheduled DVD release of Moore’s controversial documentary about President Bush, the terrorist attacks and the Iraq war.

The other release is a collection of letters written to Moore from U.S. troops in Iraq, “Will They Ever Trust Us Again?”

“I’m proud to give voice to the troops who have written to me,” Moore, a leading opponent of the war and of Bush, said in a statement.

Why do I get the feeling that Will They Ever Trust Us Again? might just stir up a little controversy upon its release? If you’ll allow me to prognosticate for a moment (not about telekinetic floating brains this time), I predict that in mid-October, a soldier with a letter printed in Moore’s book will decide that he no longer feels comfortable with what he wrote and will come forward claiming that Moore edited his original correspondence. Then, for the next several days, we’ll have the distinct pleasure of hearing conservative pundits trot out all their favorite anti-Moore phrases yet again: “traitorous,” “hates America,” “aid and comfort to the enemy,” and so forth. In fact, they’ll probably find a way to incorporate the phrase “swift boat veteran,” too — just for good measure.

Don’t tell me you’re buying into Moore’s crap now too.

I would say that predicting this does not equate to believing/not believing, it just simply makes a prediction.

I agree, crap will fly, money will be made and the election will only be minorly affected - if at all.

I definitely have my issues with Moore’s methods at times, but it also distresses me to hear people accuse him of being un-American or a traitor for what he does. I truly believe he wouldn’t be doing what he does if he didn’t love America and want to see it prosper as a nation. From there, it’s just a matter of whether or not you agree with how he thinks this prosperity can be achieved. The same could probably be said of Rush Limbaugh or (shudder) Sean Hannity — they just come at it from a different direction.

Besides, the only people who should be labeled un-American are filthy, stinking Commies. ;)

That reminds me…I just found out not too long ago that my wife is a commie: We were having a dicussion about economics, during which I started singing the praises of a free economy and how capitalism, in my opinion, is responsible for our nation’s great strength. While I was making my case, my wife stopped me and said that what I was explaining (capitalism) sounded like a system based on greed and didn’t sound fair to her. When I asked for a better economic suggestion, she replied that we should all just pool our resources and divide everything equally. At this point, I called her a dirty commie and left the room. Well, I actually went on to explain to her that she had, more or less, just described communism and then tried to explain why communism sucks because of the lack of encouraged competition, laziness of people without proper motivation, etc. I believe her reply was “Oh.” At least she doesn’t vote. ;)

ps I know that you’re not really fond of Moore. But what’s your big beef with Hannity? I know he’s as conservative as it gets, but I’d rather listen to him over Rush any day.

The thing that bothers me about Michael Moore is not Michael Moore. (Although I think he is a hypocritical opportunist who does shoddy research and manipulates facts to suit his purpose). What really bothers me is that Moore makes these broad sweeping statements of dubious accuracy and then is lauded for them as if they were God’s own truth. I think he is pulling the wool over the eyes of whoever buys into him. He doesn’t bother me, it is the ignorance of those who listen to him that bothers me. Of course I have a general beef with ignorace anyways. My theory is you can disagree with me as much as you want and I will respect you for it if you are able to tell me why you believe what you do. People that blindly follow either party, or Rush or Moore or whoever drive me up a wall.

Some interesting Michael Moore quotes at http://www.scaryjohnkerry.com/moore.htm I like how he compares the Patriot Act to Mein Kampf without considering (or knowing, likely) that during the Civil War Lincoln suspended the writ of habeus corpus. Of course most people probably don’t know that.

    That is all.

JP: I actually enjoy listening to Neal Boortz, and I can write off Rush as a cartoonish caricature, but Hannity is just too darn smug for my tastes. Just hearing his voice makes me want to yell at my car stereo. The less said about how I feel when I see him on television, the better. ;)
