Whew

I finished my comprehensive exams yesterday! w00t! For the first time in about a month, my stomach isn’t churning from stress. When it was all said and done, I ended up writing 36 typed pages for my comparative politics exam in just under seven hours–all closed-book. Of course, it will be a couple of weeks before I know if I passed or not, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

I am way happy for you. I take the bar next summer, but before then I have to pass my Tax & Policy Seminar class.
Thanks, man; it was a tough couple of months preparing for the exams, but hopefully I pulled it off. If I managed to pass the written portion, I still have an oral comp that I’ll have to pass in order to officially be ABD. I’m less worried about that, though, thanks to my supreme B.S. skills.
Meanwhile, I’m don’t envy you one bit with the bar coming up next summer. I know that I’ve heard at least a couple of people in the public administration division of our department say that they’re there just so they wouldn’t have to take the bar.
Well, even without passing the bar I’ll still have a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. Unlike other doctorate-level degrees, it will get me no respect. /Dangerfield. I think the best story I have heard was from a lwyer who was renting a canoe for a camping trip, and the lady asked him what he did for a living.
“I’m a lawyer” he replied.
“I hate lawyers” she said to him, as if it was a knee-jerk reaction.
“Well, I hate people that rent canoes” he retorted.
“That’s so mean!” she said, shocked at his rudeness.
Clearly the irony was lost on her.
