Springtime for Castro

Castro musical in the works?
Costner linked to rumored film project
I guess Hollywood is finally paying attention to what Joe Moviegoer actually wants to see. Maybe I spoke too soon when I said that Kevin Costner should stick to Westerns and movies about baseball. Then again, I guess there’s plenty of room for baseball in a Castro musical.
On the other hand, when Ain’t It Cool News–proud disseminator of misinformation that it usually is–actually questions the veracity of such a rumor, I guess it’s wise to take it with a grain of salt.

Speaking of musicals about dictators, I’m going to see the Mel Brook’s musical “The Producers” in about 3 hours. Since this is a production in L.A. it’s starring Martin Short and Jason Alexander! Today’s is Heather’s birthday, but I get to share her gift!
I’m jealous! I would love to see The Producers live (especially with Martin Short and Jason Alexander). Coincidentally enough, though, Kourtney and I rented the DVD just last night.
So, how was the show?
It was fantastic. Jason Alexander was really good, but Martin Short was outstanding! Mel Brooks rewrote the stage version. Act I (everything up to the auditions) is almost exactly like the movie, but Act II is completely different and a lot better. The overall ending is the same, but the story progresses in a completely different way that seems to fit better. I can tell you more about it if you wish. Also, unlike the movie, the entire production is a musical, not just the “Springtime for Hitler” part. Who knew Martin Short could sing? Anyway, it was awesome. Obviously, I never saw the Matthew Broderick & Nathan Lane version when it was on Broadway, but I feel confident the L.A. production was better just because of the stars. Anyway, that’s all I’ll say about it for now.
