"it's the beat generation, it's be-at" --jack kerouac

[me.]

Welcome. Years ago, I threw together a webpage. What you see here is pretty much the end-all evolution; I don't have much interest in web design anymore, and it's a fairly efficient model... so why ruin a good thing, eh?

When old designs got tossed out, so did the little goofy bio that accompanied them. But trust me, you wouldn't have been interested in reading it. I was young, thought I had a lot to say. Now I know I was just opinionated.

So what's newsworthy about the current Corey, the one who maintains this page? Well, that's your own determination.

Twenty-First century digital boy?
I used to have an interest in all things geek, but when one spends far too many hours getting paid to make sure they work, one tends to not pay too much attention to them off the clock. Or maybe that's just me. I mean, I have a computer at home. It doesn't run Windows. But that's about the extent of it. I'd rather be camping.

Straighten' the curves, flattenin' the hills
Here's a revelation. The south isn't all that bad. Now, I'm pretty much a native of the DC 'burbs. I've lived here, grown up in this area just about all my life. But there was one profound change along the way. I went to college in Tennessee. Now, by no means have I taken on all the traits of the south, but I did learn a few things: The drawl sneaks up on you. Nothing beats Appalachian camping. And driving a truck is where it's at.

One bourbon, one scotch, and one beer
So what about those precious few hours when I'm not on the clock? Well, I am a big fan of Revolution, where I tend to do my reading while drinking a good mug of coffee, or, more often these days, a pint of classic stout, or various other local microbrews. However, I'm no isolationist. Be sure to check out these Quebecois taste sensations.

We want the funk
I tend to listen to quite a bit of music.. Bob Dylan, Ben Harper, Jeff Buckley, Pink Floyd... all of these tend to be heavy in my rotation, but that only scratches the surface. I try and play a little music, too, but I'm much better at listening.

Jah work is never done
Yeah, I read a fair bit. I prefer Kerouac and the rest of the beats, but I'll read a little philosophy here and there, too. I like to study religion, any religion. And as long as you're a decent, compassionate human being, your beliefs won't offend me.

So there you have it. It won't win a Pulitzer, but at least you know a little more about the stranger upon whose page you've just stumbled.

Toys I've written:

Hex - Originally, this was going to be a project for the 5k webpage contest, until I realised that they didn't allow server-side includes. In any case, the perl and images used add up to less than 1k. I could still shrink it down if I wanted. Here's the code.

CGLogger - Corey's Generic Logger. I'm no coder (if that's not strikingly obvious), but I do like Perl, and so I'll use it when I need/want to hack something together. This is just another example of such.
