Its origin or point of isolation is unknown. The 914 virus is a memory resident infector of .COM programs. It does not infect COMMAND.COM. The first time a program infected with the 914 virus is executed, this virus will install itself memory resident at the top of system memory but below the 640K DOS boundary. Interrupt 12's return will not have been moved. Total system and available free memory, as indicated by the DOS CHKDSK program, will have decreased by 912 bytes. Interrupts 1C and AC will be hooked by the virus in memory. Once the 914 virus is memory resident, it will infect .COM programs larger than approximately 1K in size when they are executed. Infected programs will have a file length increase of 914 bytes, the virus will be located at the end of the file. The program's date and time in the DOS disk directory listing will not have been altered. There are no text strings visible in the viral code in infected files. It is unknown if 914 does anything besides replicate.
