General Comments:
The 595 virus was received in September, 1992. Its origin or
point of isolation is unknown. The 595 virus is a non-resident
direct action infector of .COM programs, including COMMAND.COM.
When a program infected with the 595 virus is executed, the 595
virus will infect one .COM program located in the current
directory. If all of the .COM files in the current directory are
already infected, the virus will search for a .COM program in the
C: drive root directory to infect. Infected programs will have a
file length increase of 599 bytes with the virus being located at
the end of the file. The program's date and time in the DOS disk
directory listing will have been updated to the current system date
and time when infection occurred. There is one text string visible
within the viral code in infected programs:
"????????COM"
It is unknown if 595 does anything besides replicate.
