Its origin or point of isolation is unknown. Attention-629 is a non-resident, direct action infector of .COM programs, including COMMAND.COM. When a program infected with the Attention-629 virus is executed, this virus will infect one .COM program located in the current directory. Infected programs will have a file length increase of 629 bytes with the virus being located at the beginning of the file. The program's date and time in the DOS disk directory listing will have been updated to the current system date and time when infection occurred. The following text strings are visible within the viral code in all Attention-629 infected programs: "*.com" "Attention! I'm virus." "????????COM" The second of these text strings will be repeatedly displayed by the virus, resulting in a scrolling of the display. System hangs may also occur when infected programs are executed.
