General Comments:
The V483 virus was received in August, 1991. Its origin is
unknown. V483 is a memory resident infector of .COM and .EXE
programs, including COMMAND.COM.
When a program infected with V483 is executed, this virus will
install itself memory resident. After becoming memory resident,
it will infect the next .COM or .EXE program which is executed.
If COMMAND.COM is executed, it will become infected. At this
time, the system will become hung once the virus has completed
infecting the program the user was attempting to execute.
Programs infected with V483 will have a file length increase of
483 bytes. The virus will be located at the end of the infected
program. The file's date and time in the DOS disk directory will
also have been updated to the system date and time when infection
occurred. V483 will also overwrite the first 24 bytes of infected
files with hex "FF" characters, thus permanently corrupting them.
Infected programs will usually not execute properly.
