General Comments:
The SeaCat virus was submitted in December, 1992. Its origin or
point of isolation is unknown. SeaCat is a non-resident, direct
action infector of .COM programs, including COMMAND.COM.
When a program infected with the SeaCat virus is executed, the
SeaCat virus will infect one .COM program located in the current
directory. Infected programs will have a file length increase of
160 bytes with the virus being located at the beginning of the
file. The program's date and time in the DOS disk directory listing
will have been updated to the current system date and time when
infection occurred. The Read-Only attribute will be set on in the
DOS disk directory listing for the file. The following text string
can be found within the viral code in all SeaCat infected programs:
"SeaCat*.com"
SeaCat will corrupt .COM programs smaller than 160 bytes when they
are infected by the virus.
